Sunday 21st June

A short climb from the hotel, with spectacular views looking back to Fuschl Am See. Drop down to Mondsee for coffee, followed by a circuit of the lake and a climb back up to the hotel. Post ride snack at the hotel followed by an optional afternoon loop via Fistenau, offering more spectacular views back to Fuschl am See. 65/22km (750/350m total ascent). Meals: B D

Monday 22nd June

A short climb from the hotel offers a spectacular first view of Wolfgangsee. Drop down into St Gilgen stopping briefly by the lake to watch the boats. Ride along Wolfgangsee and along the valley to Bad Ischl for coffee. A steady climb over to the southern end of Attersee returning via St Gilgen for ice cream. 80km (760m total ascent). Meals: B D

Tuesday 23rd June

A relatively short day but with a tough climb up the Gaisberg, just to the East of Salzburg. The spectacular views make the climb worthwhile. Time to admire the view and stop for a drink on the summit before retracing our steps. 68km (1,400m total ascent). Meals: B D

Wednesday 24th June

A circuit to the north west of Fuschl am See. Stop for coffee in Seekirchen then wind our way along before climbing over to Irsee and then back to Mondsee for a cake at the tempting bakery or a look round the spectacular church. 84km (1,180m total ascent). Meals: B D

Thursday 25th June

Head out to St Gilgen again and ride round Wolfgangsee to the picture postcard town of St Wolfgang for an easy day. If you fancy a bit more climbing there is an optional out and back to the Postalm for some stunning views and a drink at the top. 52/82km (525m/1,300m total ascent). Meals: B D

Friday 26th June

A clockwise circuit of Attersee, to the north west of our hotel. A slightly more undulating route avoids the relatively busy road right on the lake. The Area Covered By The Holiday

The Salzkammergut region of Austria lies to the East of Salzburg and is known as the Austrian Lake District because of its 76 crystal clear lakes. Picturesque villages such as St Wolfgang and Mondsee sit on the edge of the lakes which are surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Road surfaces are good, and there are many traffic-free bike paths which we use where possible.

Rides & Rest Days

Because this is a centre based tour there is flexibility in the itinerary. Apart from the Gaisberg climb, the gradients aren’t too steep, and the roads around the lakes are often fairly flat. If you want a day doing your own thing on the bike, the hotel can lend you a pre programmed GPS. If you fancy a day off the bike, as well as relaxing at the hotel and lake there are many local walking trails to discover as well as the lovely City of Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and location for the ‘Sound of Music’.

Accommodation & Meals

The hotel is totally geared up for cyclists with a workshop and mechanic as well as a free laundry service for your cycling kit. There is a huge choice at breakfast, a 5 course evening meal and a substantial post ride snack each day. The hotel has a sauna and free entry to a heated 25m swimming pool.

Travel

Since travel to the start and from the finish of this tour is not included, it is very important that you note that neither your Tour Manager nor CTC Holidays & Tours are responsible for you in any way until the appointed time at the designated meeting point. Should you fail to arrive at the appointed time for whatever reason, we will not be responsible for any additional expenses you may incur in order to meet up with the tour group. The hotel can provide a transfer service from the airport for you and your bike (price not included). There are also good public transport links from Salzburg to Fuschl am See.

Group Information

The maximum group size will be 16 excluding the Tour Manager(s).

Weather & Clothing

The weather should be warm in June, but come prepared with the type of clothing you would use in the UK in early summer.

Cycles & Equipment

You should ensure your cycle is well maintained, paying particular attention to wheels, tyres and brakes and that you have suitable gears for climbing hills. The hotel hires high quality Canyon road bikes, which could be a really good alternative to taking your own bike.

Maps & Guides

Bikeline produce a laminated map with all the roads and cycle routes on - Salzkammergut RK-A05.

Travel Insurance & Advice

In addition to travel insurance, EU nationals should carry a European Health Insurance Card, obtainable from most Post Offices. This enables you to take advantage of emergency medical services free or at a discount under a reciprocal provision that exists between EU member states. Your travel insurer may refuse to meet the extra costs of medical treatment if you do not carry this card.
Before booking you should check the latest travel advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office including security and local laws, plus passport and visa information, at www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice or on 0845 850 2829.
